Multi gyms
|
Has anyone got experience of using these?
I know nothing beats the range of equipment you get in a gym, but im looking for the next best thing.
Ideally I want something that has a 100kg weight stack - most seem to have 50-65kg which is pointless.
There are some really advanced ones, but they are around 1k, im looking to spend about half that.
Having never used multi-gyms, I also want something that actually feels like it is working your muscles, rather than some half-arsed movements.

Looks like a pretty reasonable deal overall, but be kind to the safety bars - a 500lb rating isn't very high.
In conjunction with your bench you should have pretty much all your bases covered for general training though, assuming you have a decent barbell and plates.

I think i'll get a power rack with a pulley system.
Seems like its the best of both worlds, you get to do free weights but with the option of doing some cable exercises.
Not going to bother with an actual multi gym. I was never totally convinced by them as im pretty sure you cannot get a full range of movement with the exercises on them.
Thanks guys.

For £500 you should be able to pick up a secondhand smiths machine and a load of free weights (about £1/1.50 per kilo). A power rack would also do the job, although probably not as versatile as a smiths machine, and more time adjusting the height etc.

You can do rows with the free weights to hit the lats i think, you dont need to splash on the multi gym i reckon unless a great 2nd hand one pops up

Sounds like you're looking to waste your money. As Ricky said just get a squat rack and upgrade your free weights. No need for a multi gym.

Thanks Ricky
Just got a garage/outbuilding built, so im making the most of it.
I've got a bench already and a bunch of free weights, but I want a bit of variety so I can do lat pull downs, cable rows etc

Here you go as an example. You just need to buy a couple more plates when you require.

Re: Multi gyms

If you have room (garage of whatever) it makes far more sense to buy a 2nd hand power rack, bench, barbell and plates
This would then allow you full and effective workouts.
Hunting around on gum tree you would be surprised the prices you can get stuff.

Is there a emoticon for "looking to buy cheap shit?"
if u want something durable and the weights you mentioned, you need to lash out unless you go second hand?
or tie some books to an old broom stick?
;-) x :-) x ;-( :-(
